The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty by Ben Stiller
Review by Matthew Y, Youth Reviewer
“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, directed by Ben Stiller, is a comedy-adventure film based on the short story by James Thurber. The movie follows the mundane life of Walter Mitty, a daydreaming photo editor at Life Magazine.
To escape the dullness of his reality, Walter escapes through vivid fantasies where he transforms into a daring hero. However, his world takes an extraordinary turn when a crucial photograph goes missing, setting him on an unexpected adventure across the world to recover it. During this journey of a lifetime, he has countless new experiences, discovers his true self, and comes closer to becoming the man he once dreamed to be.
I was especially captivated by Ben Stiller himself’s amazing portrayal of Walter Mitty. He accurately captures the essence of Walter’s transformation from a reserved, daydreaming introvert to a courageous explorer. The film masterfully transitions between his imaginative escapades and the real world, creating a stunningly enthralling experience that reflects his inner desires and ambitions. Walter Mitty’s development and growth throughout the story make his journey both inspiring and endearing to viewers.
“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”’s writing style beautifully expresses the spirit of adventure and self-discovery. Its inspiring message is particularly suitable for teenagers and young adults. As a family-friendly movie with accessible vocabulary and pacing, the film can be enjoyed by all ages and demographics. I would rate this film a solid 9 out of 10.
