The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Review by Sofia C-E., Youth Reviewer
Avery Grambs is your typical teenager for the most part, except when Grayson Hawthorne shows up at her school saying that she is in his grandfather's will. Tobias Hawthorne is a billionaire that has recently died and Avery is required to be there when the will is opened and read. Here's the thing: Avery's mother passed away and her half-sister Libby stepped in to be her guardian. Her whole life is switched upside down in less than a couple of hours. Avery Grambs has inherited Tobias Hawthorne's fortune, and the only thing she has to do is move into his huge mansion and live with the remaining family. This includes four Hawthorne grandsons that are trouble no matter what, who grew up thinking that one day they would inherit billions. Grayson Hawthorne is the second oldest grandson and is convinced that Avery Grambs is a con woman. He will do anything to take her down. On the other hand, there is his brother Jameson, who sees her as their grandfather's last puzzle, one that has to be solved. Hundreds of people are willing to do whatever it takes to take Avery down and get the money. What I enjoyed about this book is how it was interesting to read how Avery's life transformed so quickly and how it is a puzzle to figure out why she was on Tobias Hawthorne's will. What I disliked about this book is how it did not focus too much on what her life was like before she had to move into the Hawthorne mansion. In my opinion, it would be interesting to see what it would've been like.
