The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T. Sutherland
Review by Matthew Y., Youth Reviewer
“The Dragonet Prophecy” by Tui T. Sutherland is a fantasy-fiction novel about a dragon named Clay. The story takes place on a continent called Pyrrhia, occupied by seven separate dragon tribes – each with its proper attributes, natural weapons, kingdoms, and cultures. The tribes are currently at war, each allied with one of the three SandWing heirs, who vie for the throne. However, the NightWings, a tribe with the power of foresight, have delivered a prophecy. The prophecy states that after 20 years of conflict, five dragonets of various tribes born on the brightest night would finally end the war.
Clay, the main character, and MudWing of the “Dragonets of Destiny” is a nervous, selfless, caring, sweet, protective dragonet and a relatable protagonist. As the story progresses, Clay develops an unlikely friendship, leadership abilities, reliability, and a great love for food. He finds his true family, and together, they complete the first step in fulfilling the prophecy and ending the war.
This book is the first of five in the “Wings of Fire” series. Each book takes the perspective of a different dragonet of destiny and follows their great quest to end the war. I really enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to anyone over the age of 10, as the book contains some graphic and bloody scenes. This series is one of my all-time favorites, and I often find myself coming back to reread it again and again. 10 out of 10!
