Monument 14: Sky On Fire by Emmy Laybourne
Review by Penelope B., Youth Reviewer
Emmy Laybourne is the author of the post-apocalyptic trilogy, “Monument 14”. “Monument 14: Sky On Fire” is the second book in this captivating trilogy. “Sky On Fire” is from the perspective of the Grieder brothers, who both survived the initial crash. The book is written where one chapter is from Alex’s perspective and the next from Dean’s perspective. This style of writing was present in the first book as well, however, it was only from Dean’s perspective, so this different style makes the book much more entertaining since you’re reading two different adventures in the same book. This book was hard to put down.
At the end of the first book in this trilogy, five of the fourteen kids stay behind in the Greenway superstore. Dean is one of the five kids that stays behind in the store and his perspective covers everything that happens during his time in the store. At the same time, the rest of the kids leave for Denver. Alex is the second perspective, and he is one of the kids that leave. They left because there were evacuations in Denver, so they plan to get help to rescue the five kids who stayed behind since it would be too dangerous if they went with them. The final step of the plan is to find everyone’s families. But of course, there are incidents where lives are at stake, making this plan harder and harder to fulfil.
My favourite part of the book was the end, where you realise why the title is named “Sky On Fire”. It was so entertaining that I couldn’t put the book down. “Monument 14: Sky On Fire” was filled with action, adventure, suspense, thrills, and pretty much everything a great book has to offer. Books to read that are as gripping and intriguing as “Monument 14: Sky On Fire” would be the rest of the books in the trilogy. The final book of the three is “Monument 14: Savage Drift”.
