This event has expired.
Categories: Adults Seniors
February 2, 2023 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Available at: Central Library

The Community Edition is back with more workshops to help you learn journalistic writing skills!  This is a serial program, and a new topic will be introduced each Thursday.  You can register for only the sessions you are interested in.  This session focuses on the technical aspects of writing an article including action voice, CP style, format, information organization within the article, etc. (The technical skills you will need to write a good journalistic article).

Registration required.

In this collaboration with KPL, chief editor Harleen Dhillon will help community members learn how to share news stories in a journalistic way. They will learn how to write news articles from the planning to the publishing phase. They will also learn some skills that add depth to stories—such as understanding objectivity and conduction strong interviews These are the first steps in developing a journalistic mindset.  Participants will produce an outline and a plan for a news piece.  They will receive guidance and, if they so choose, a follow-up feedback session for their written piece.  Although participants are under no obligation to publish their work, if it fits with our guidelines, they will also have the opportunity to publish with The Community Edition.

About the presenter: The Community Edition is a local monthly newspaper covering Waterloo Region's community members, their stories, and their thoughts.  We strive to cover pertinent topics accurately, fairly, and comprehensively.  We are a paper created by and for community members.
