Secret Invasion by Ali Selim
Review by Penelope B., Youth Reviewer
Ali Selim directed “Secret Invasion”, a six-episode Marvel series based off of the Marvel Comics. “Secret Invasion” is a sci-fi, action-packed spy thriller which takes place after “Avengers: Endgame” and is part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cast of “Secret Invasion” includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Emilia Clarke.
After the Blip in “Avengers: Endgame”, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) returns to Earth from being off planet and working in space. Fury learns from his alien friend, Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), that when Fury had left Earth, there was a Skrull rebellion. Skrulls are shapeshifters who take the form of humans but have no planet of their own. The goal of their uprising is to control Earth and make it their permanent home, and the plan is to eradicate humans in the process. This rebellion is led by the Skrull Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who will do anything to get what he feels is right for his people.
“Secret Invasion'' was a very entertaining and action-filled show. However, I did find that the CGI looked cheap here and there, and parts of the show got very confusing as to what was going on. I also found that Emilia Clarke, who plays Talos’ daughter G’iah, wasn’t the best actress to play the role. I felt she was just a bit too plain and emotionless to play the tough, punk, two-faced girl who works for both Gravik and Fury. But other than a few minor complaints, “Secret Invasion'' was a pretty good Marvel TV show and one I would watch again. Another show related to “Secret Invasion'' is “Captain Marvel”, which is also enjoyable.
