KITCHENER, ON — Kitchener Public Library is excited to announce "The Story of Us" by Catherine Hernandez is the 2024 One Book, One Community read. "The Story of Us" is a stunning and emotionally searing story about the unbreakable bond of family and the magic that can happen when we meet in the middle.
One Book, One Community is Canada’s longest running community reading program and has celebrated Canadian authors for 23 years. One Book, One Community connects readers across our community through the shared experiences of reading and discussing the same book. "The Story of Us" is an impactful novel by Catherine Hernandez, published in 2023. Hernandez, an award-winning author, screenwriter and playwright, captures the experiences and challenges of the live-in caregiver program for newcomers in Canada while also exploring the power of acceptance and belonging.
“We’re excited to share 'The Story of Us' with Kitchener residents and readers,” said Nathan Stretch, Division Manager of Community Development at Kitchener Public Library. “It is a profound story about diaspora, family, and connection. It's a novel that you will remember long after you finish the last page.”
One Book, One Community will culminate with an in-person celebration with Catherine Hernandez on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m. at Central Library.
