Unfrosted by Jerry Seinfeld
Review by Penelope B., Youth Reviewer
Jerry Seinfeld directed and starred in the new comedy film “Unfrosted”. An interesting aspect of the movie is that it is loosely based on the true story of the creation of the breakfast item, the Pop-Tart. The movie’s main stars, including Seinfeld, are Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, and various other guest comedians, making this a very amusing film.
In 1963, Kellogg’s and Post, the two leading breakfast companies in the United States, battled to create the first-ever toastable breakfast item. Bob Cabana (Jerry Seinfeld), a Kellogg’s employee, finds out that their sworn enemy, Post, has stolen Kellogg’s scrapped information about a toastable pastry, inciting a comedic race to be the first to invent and perfect the new product. When Bob brings it to his boss’s attention (Jim Gaffigan), they make it their mission to beat the head of Post, Marjorie Post (Amy Schumer), in this new competition. Once they recruit Stan (Melissa McCarthy), the former employee who initially tried to create the pastry, the two companies go head-to-head to make the Pop-Tart first. At the same time, they face off against certain enemies, including mascots and milkmen, in a humorous race.
What I really liked about “Unfrosted” was that it was light, funny, entertaining, and clean. I appreciated that it wasn’t serious, even though it was based on the actual creation of the Pop-Tart. “Unfrosted” had all the elements a great comedy should have, so I am definitely rewatching this film.
