The Marvels by Nia DaCosta
Review by Penelope B., Youth Reviewer
“The Marvels” was directed by Nia DaCosta and is based on the “Marvel” Comics. The movie takes place after “Avengers: Endgame”. When Carol Danvers destroys the Kree empire years before, she must get help to stop Dar-Benn from destroying other planets in order to save her own. The stars are Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Thirty Years after Carol Danvers destroyed the Supreme Intelligence, Hala fell into ruin since the Kree Empire had no leader. But not anymore — a new leader has emerged, Dar-Benn, and she is planning to destroy other planets to bring Hala back to life. However, Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan’s light-based powers become connected, meaning they switch places when they use their powers, all of which happens when Danvers and Rambeau touch an unstable jump point made by Dar-Benn. From there on out, the three must learn to work together as a team and stop Dar-Benn from destroying more planets and killing thousands.
My favourite part of the movie was with the character Goose and the other Flerkins. I found that “The Marvels” was a very enjoyable and entertaining film. I’d even go on to say that “The Marvels” is, so far, the best film in “Marvel’s Phase Five”.
The movies and shows related to “The Marvels” are “Captain Marvel”, “WandaVision”, “Ms. Marvel” and “Secret Invasion”. I can’t wait to see this great trio in more “Marvel” films. All in all, I loved watching this film, and I am definitely rewatching it.
