Under A Fairy Moon by T.M. Wallace
Review by Penelope B., Youth Reviewer
“Under A Fairy Moon” was written by T. M. Wallace, and is a fantasy fiction book. The story is about a young girl who enters her neighbour’s garden, which ends up taking her to another world. When she realizes she is in another world, she must go on a daring adventure to escape. She makes new friends on the way but must learn to give away her pride to save this world and all who live in it, or die trying.
Fourteen-year-old Addyson Marten goes into Mrs. Tavish’s garden to explore and let her imagination run wild. When she is in there, she meets a young boy named Connor who tells her they are actually in a different world, called the Median Realm. The only way to leave is if the two children play a game of Fairy Chess, and risk their lives and the fate of the realm if one loses.
My favourite character in the book was Connor. But he wasn’t in the book as long as I would have liked. I found that Addy got annoying with all of her inner thoughts and questions; it made the book feel overly long. I also thought that the many long descriptions got very repetitive, making it less entertaining and dull to read. Finally, I also found that the ending fell flat, leaving you somewhat disappointed and relieved that the book was done.
For an adventure story, I found that it was not that adventurous. I wasn’t a big fan of this book; it was a cool idea, but the combination of the descriptions and the easily angered and jealous Addy made it much less entertaining. But those who enjoy “Under A Fairy Moon” should read the sequel, “Wintergarden”.
