Latin American and Hispanic Heritage Month Learning Resources
October is a month to celebrate and honour cultural heritages!
The month of October was designated as Latin American Heritage Month by the Parliament of Canada in 2018. October is also Hispanic Heritage Month in the province of Ontario. It is a time to reflect, celebrate, and learn more about Latin American and Hispanic heritage and culture and to honour the rich traditions of Canadians of Latin American origin.

Community Resources
- Spanish and Latin American Studies at University of Waterloo: These programs examine the diverse societies of Latin America and Spain through a de-colonial lens to explore and make sense of the experiences of the peoples of the region.
- Neruda Arts: A non-profit music presenter dedicated to building bridges in the community through music, dance, theatre, and literary and visual arts. They bring artists from Latin America and the world. And they help diverse (Latin American among them) local artist thrive in the area.
- Hispanic Canadian Heritage Council (HCHC): A non-for-profit organization constituted by key institutions from the Hispanic / Latin American community of Toronto. The HCHC is a community organization established with the purpose to highlight and promote the contribution of Hispanic / Latin American culture to the evolving fabric of Canadian Heritage.
- Latin American-Canadian Arts Project: A Toronto-based, not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the implementation of art projects, which promote Latin American art in Canada with an emphasis on artistic excellence, critically engaged artistic practices, and hemispheric networks of exchange.
- Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS): Facilitates networking and information exchange among persons, in Canada and abroad, engaged in teaching and research on Latin America and the Caribbean
- Canadian Association of Hispanists (ACH): Their objective is to promote Hispanic studies in Canada and contribute to the professional work of its members
- Hispanic Canadian Arts and Cultural Association (HCACA): The Hispanic Canadian Arts and Cultural Association is a non-profit charitable organization that supports the development of local artists, including musicians, visual artists, performers and others interested in Latin American and Hispanic music and culture.
