Visiting Library for Kids

 

The Kitchener Public Library has launched a family literacy program. Our goal is to inspire children and their parents to discover books and the resources of their public library. To accomplish this goal, KPL has enthusiastic volunteers introduce books and stories to young children (up to 6 years) in child-care settings and community centres.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must be 18 years and older

  • Able to provide own transportation

  • Able to read stories to a group of preschool children; experience an asset

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Able to interact with the public in a positive and professional manner

  • Speak and write English fluently

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

 

 

Time Commitment

 

  • 1 - 2 hours / month; hours are flexible

 

 

Location

 

  • Community centres and home daycare sites

 

 

Note: This opportunity requires additional screening including a police check.
