  Interlibrary Loans

Books and microfilm not owned by the Kitchener Public Library may be requested from other libraries in person at any KPL location, by calling Infolink (519-743-7502), or by submitting an Interlibrary Loan Form online.

  • Full access KPL card holders can request up to 4 Interlibrary Loans.
  • Check the KPL catalogue first. If we do not have the book you would like, submit an Interlibrary Loan Form or ask staff to assist you in processing your request.
  • Interlibrary loans take from 1 – 6 weeks to arrive. Archival material or microfilm may take longer.
  • We will contact you once your item(s) have arrived or if your request cannot be filled.
  • Interlibrary loans must be picked up within 3 days or a $2.00 fee will be charged.

The following items may NOT be requested for interlibrary loan:

  • anything in the KPL catalogue, including reference material and e-books
  • books published in the past 12 months
  • audiovisual material, including DVDs, videos, cassettes and talking books
  • graphic novels
  • entire issues of periodicals

Lending fees:

  • Public libraries do not usually impose a lending fee. We will always try to obtain items from a non-charging location first.
  • Most university libraries have instituted a lending fee, usually a minimum of $10.00. Locations in the United States charge a minimum of $20.00 U.S. and customs fees may apply. Unless you pre-authorize fees we will notify you before requesting from a location that charges.

Microfilm:

  • To check for archival microfilm from the Archives of Ontario, access the Microfilm Interloan Service section of their website. We will require the microfilm reference code (GS1, GS2, MS, B), along with the reel number and a brief description of the item (i.e. vital statistics, court records etc.). There is a limit of 3 microfilms per customer.
  • To check for archival microfilm from the Library and Archives of Canada, access Archivianet. The microfilm reference number is required, along with a brief description of the item (i.e. passenger lists, census returns, land records etc.).
  • Newspaper microfilm requests should specify newspaper name and date (year and month).

International Languages:

  • Requests must be for a specific title.
  • Please supply the original title or author.

Magazine Articles:

  • We require the title, date, issue, and page numbers to order photocopies of articles.
  • Charges for photocopies or faxes are set by the lending library.

Renewals:

  • Requests for renewal must be made at least 5 days before the due date and are granted subject to the approval of the lending library.
