Assessment Records
The information in this section is divided into two parts:
Assessment Records in the GSR
Assessment records establish the value of the land for taxation. In addition to the taxation information, assessment records include the age of the head of the household, his occupation and the amount of statute labour (the number of hours that a person had to spend maintaining the roads in the area).
Records Held

The earliest assessment records in the GSR are the GORE DISTRICT microfilm, for any period between 1816 and 1840. Check the list for the exact records for each township. The list is kept on the top of the microfilm cabinet in the GSR.
