The Grace Schmidt Room of Local History
ORAL
HISTORY TAPES
The
GSR has a collection of oral history tapes, featuring
members of the local community. The interviews
are generally less than 90 minutes long.
The
catalogue of interviews is kept in the shelving
unit next to the display window in the GSR. The
catalogue is arranged by oral history tape number,
with a surname index in the back of the binder.
You
may listen to an oral history tape in the GSR.
A cassette player and earphones are available
for use. Please ask library staff at the Level
3 Information Desk for information and assistance.
You
may sign out the cassette tapes for a one-week
loan period if you are a KPL cardholder. Please
ask library staff at the Level 3 Information Desk
for more information.
Several
early tapes have been transcribed and the written
transcriptions are in binders on the shelves near
the catalogue. A notation has been made in the
catalogue if an interview has been transcribed.
Please note that the transcriptions cannot be
borrowed.
As
well, some of the oral history interviewers prepared
an outline of the interviews they conducted. These
outlines are also in binders on shelves near the
Oral History Tape catalogue.
