KPL Staff Picks – 2002

Each year we compile the list of our favorites from all the great things we read during the year. Here are some of our picks.

Paradise Alley by Kevin Baker

This novel of historical fiction follows the story began in Dreamland. Set in New York city during the American civil war, this second volume chronicles the results of Lincoln’s decision to create a draft and the riots that follow.

Tell No One by Harlan Coben

This is a suspense-filled story about a man who loses his wife to a serial kill and then becomes implicated in her murder eight years later.

Lake in the Clouds by Sara Donati

The story of Elizabeth and Daniel Bonner continues in this third volume of Donati’s series set in Paradise, N.Y. in the late 18th century.

Broken Ground by Jack Hodgins

Soldiers returning from the First World War received land grants from the Federal Government on Vancouver Island as a reward for service. The challenges of this new life are chronicled through the lives of the settlers of Portuguese Creek as they try to build new lives for themselves and their family, not always with success.

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

During a birthday party at the home of a South American VP a group of terrorists take the party hostage. Surprisingly, relationships begin to develop between the captors and the captives and unexpected bonds are forged with results that no one could imagine.
