Free e-Reads

 

There are a wide range of websites offering free downloadable e-books, many of which are compatible with most e-reader devices. For your convenience, KPL librarians have assembled a list of notable free e-book websites.

 

Important: e-Book download websites will often ask you to select a file format (.epub, .mobi, .azw, etc) when you download a title. Please refer to the documentation that came with your e-reader for details about compatible file types.

 

 

  • ManyBooks.net
    There are more than 29,000 e-books available for Kindle, Nook, iPad and most other eReaders, and they're all free!

  • Project Gutenberg
    Project Gutenberg offers over 38,000 free e-books. Choose among free epub books or free Kindle books; download them or read them online.

  • Book Lending
    Book Lending is a site that matches lenders and borrowers of Kindle e-books. To participate, you must first register as a user on the site or connect with the Facebook Connect service.

  • Get Free e-Books
    A site that brings both authors and readers into the world of free e-books. Authors with free eBooks benefit greatly from the large community of readers, and the readers in return have lots of materials to read to their hearts' content.

  • Free-eBooks.net
    Maintained by a group of bibliophiles whose mission is to promote literacy and share authors' messages with the world. Titles include fiction, nonfiction, business and lifestyle; all are by lesser-known authors.

  • Open Library
    The Open Library project features over 1,000,000 works of classic literature available for download in its Accessible Book Collection, and over 10,000 e-books available to borrow in its online Lending Library.

  • The Online Books Page
    This website makes it easy to access books that are freely readable over the Internet.

  • JustFreeBooks
    JustFreeBooks searches the content of more than 700 websites, including gutenberg.org, wikibooks.org and archive.org. With JustFreeBooks, you can find all sorts of free books: public domain texts, open books, free audio books, ad-supported books and more.

  • Inkmesh
    This search engine makes it easier to find free e-books and compare e-book prices for the Kindle, iPhone, Sony Reader, Nook and other devices.

 

  • Smashwords
    Smashwords is an ebook publishing and distribution platform for ebook authors, publishers, agents and readers.
