Casual/Part-time Shelver
Country Hills Community Library
Contract Position
The Kitchener Public Library has an opening for a casual/part-time Shelver at the Country Hills Community Library location. This is a six-month contract position and will require 8 and 13 hours in alternating weeks. These hours will include weekend and evening shifts. The hourly rate for this position is $8.75.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Shelves materials in public areas according to Dewey Decimal or local classification systems.
- Sorts library materials onto book trucks.
- Organizes and maintains shelves in proper sequence including shelf reading to ensure accuracy and accessibility to materials.
- Provides assistance to the Community Library Circulation Desk staff that may include clearing the book bins, placing date due cards into book pockets, answering the telephone, or shelving materials and/or magazines.
- Performs simple support duties, such as taping newspapers, attaching book covers and shifting collections.
- Refers library customers to the appropriate service point.
- Sets up meeting room as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed Grade 10
- Speed and accuracy in sorting and shelving
- Ability to arrange materials in alphabetical order and numerical order
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public
