Part-time Senior Library Assistant
Information Services - Main Library
Permanent Position
The Kitchener Public Library has an opening for a part-time Senior Library Assistant in the Information Services Department at the Main Library. This position will require approximately 15 - 20 hours per week and will include day, evening and weekend shifts. The hourly rate for this position is $21.81.
Reporting to the Coordinator – Information Services, the incumbent of this position will provide reference service to the public at all service points overseen by the Information Services Department that includes InfoLink, Information Services, and Information Services - Level 2, including the Grace Schmidt Room of Local History.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds to requests for information in person, over the telephone and via electronic format using print and electronic resources.
- Instructs the public in the use of the library catalogue and other resources.
- Conducts basic online searches using electronic databases.
- Supports information-based collections through the organization, maintenance and basic cataloguing of materials using local classification systems.
- Participates in shelf reading and performs shelf checks for the Community Libraries and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post secondary degree/diploma
- One to two years of library experience
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to perform work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn new technologies and work comfortably in an automated technological environment demonstrated through recent experience
- Ability to interact with the public in a positive manner
- Ability to function as an effective member of a work team
- Commitment to excellence in public service
