Part-time Library Assistant
Country Hills Community Library
Permanent Position
The Kitchener Public Library has an opening for a part-time Library Assistant at the Country Hills Community Library location. This is a permanent position that will require approximately 22.5 hours per week. Shifts will include day, evening and weekend hours. The hourly rate is $18.72.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides a high level of customer service related to the circulation of materials. For example: checking in/out and renewing of materials; explaining policies and procedures and granting exceptions when appropriate; collecting fines; negotiation of financial transactions; etc.
- Checks customer identification and registers customers as library members, and renews expired memberships.
- Provides ongoing directional and basic reference assistance to customers in person and by telephone, refers to other library system resources and instructs customers on the use of the library’s catalogue and other print and electronic resources.
- Answers telephone inquiries from the public and staff at other locations about programs, availability of materials, hours of operation, etc.
- Performs support duties which may include shelfreading, paperback processing, telephoning reserves, book repairs, processing system generated lists, etc.
- Follows safe work practices and procedures in support of KPL’s Safety and Health Policy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post secondary degree/diploma or equivalent education and library experience
- Strong commitment to excellence in public service demonstrated through recent experience
- Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to articulate library policies and to interact with customers of all ages and backgrounds, clearly and positively
- Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in an automated environment
- Ability to function as an effective member of a work team demonstrated through recent experience
- Basic keyboarding skills
